...ADDED RECORD RAINFALL FOR VANCOUVER AND HILLSBORO AIRPORTS...
...NEW MOST RAIN IN ONE HOUR RECORD...
...WETTEST DAY SINCE START OF 2009...

PERSISTENT HEAVY SHOWERS OVER THE PORTLAND AND VANCOUVER
METROPOLITAN AREA PRODUCED SIGNIFICANT RAIN ACROSS THE REGION
YESTERDAY.

BETWEEN 8 PM AND 9 PM ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 7...PORTLAND
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RECEIVED 1.03 INCHES OF RAIN.  THIS SHATTERS
THE PREVIOUS ALL TIME AMOUNT OF RAIN FOR A ONE HOUR DURATION.  THE
PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 0.93 INCH SET ON MAY 24 2008.

IN ADDITION...RAINFALL FOR TUESDAY ALSO SETS A NEW RECORD FOR THE
RAINFALL FOR 7 SEPTEMBER. THE PORTLAND AIRPORT RECEIVED 1.55 INCHES
OF RAIN. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 0.26 SET IN 1951.

YESTERDAY WAS THE 5TH WETTEST DAY ON RECORD FOR THE MONTH OF
SEPTEMBER AT THE AIRPORT.


IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE THIS MUCH RAIN HAS FALLEN. LAST TIME THIS
MUCH RAIN FELL...ONE WOULD HAVE TO GO BACK TO NEW YEARS DAY IN
2009...WHEN 2.49 INCHES OF RAIN FELL.

PERIOD OF RECORD FOR THE PORTLAND AIRPORT IS OCTOBER 1940 TO THE
PRESENT.

THE FOLLOWING SHOWS THE RECORD RAINFALL AMOUNTS FOR VANCOUVER AND
HILLSBORO AIRPORTS...

A RECORD RAINFALL OF 0.57 INCH(ES) WAS SET AT VANCOUVER WA
YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 0.48 SET IN 1973.

A RECORD RAINFALL OF 0.87 INCH(ES) WAS SET AT HILLSBORO OR
YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 0.35 SET IN 1978.
